Electric cars and gearboxes
Recently, I was wondering about gearboxes and electric cars in the game. At least modern electric cars have (as far as I am aware) only one gear. And there is at least the Porsche Taycan with kind of a second gear. If building electric cars in the current build, is it worthwhile designing gearboxes with more than one gear? I know that electronic locomotives can have many gears, but the reasons for this do not really apply to small vehicles like cars (I think).

I guess my question is if the game simulates power bands. Note that I have zero knowledge of cars, just a very basic understanding of electric engines.

Electric engines can have multi-gear gearboxes. For example Formula E use a 5-speed gearbox. When prices of electric vehicles eventually come down, you're likely to see them work their way into the consumer space. Gearboxes do provide efficiency and performance gains to electric engines, just not enough to justify increasing the cost of already overly expensive vehicles.

I guess my question is if the game simulates power bands.

The game has a very rudimentary torque system. Gearing does affect torque output for all engine types. Currently, electric engines do not have any special rules in this respect. So you will want to use a multi-gear gearbox with electrics in the game.

There are several feature bounty tickets to expand and improve the electric system in the game. Nearly all of the component systems in the game were designed in 2010-2011. At that time, electrics engines were on the fringe, and most people were not sure if it would be cost viable at the time.

Of course, government subsidy and government regulation are the main things that made it viable. Neither of which are in the game as well, but I've got feature bounties for those too.

Has Anyone Tried to do a all electric car
I am playing from the 50's on the testing build on my current save has anyone had a successful electric only car? in any period of time?

I haven't tried it in a long time. But your best bet should be to do it how companies are doing it in real life now. You sell a bunch at a loss to boost market-share and increase the popularity. (Most companies are selling at a loss these days to boost fleet CAFE/emissions standards, but I digress.)

The upcoming v1.23.4 this should be easier to do.

By large marketshare, we're talking about 30% of the vehicle sales in a turn range. If you're already getting these numbers, you're getting the existing boost in fuel popularity anyway.

The other change mentioned is more likely to effect electric cars. You only really need to get a little more marketshare than previously to boost it. (Combine that with linking, and long term growth is easier.)
