Emerson Press Release

Warranty and Parts

Emerson continues to provide warranty coverage and replacement parts with every vehicle purchase. Monthly reports on parts, warranty claims, and net profits inform executive decisions and guide product redesigns aimed at reducing losses.

According to the August 2020 report, the 2017 Chungfung Motion E4TT—a model designed and launched in 2017—incurred a net loss of $17,048,045 after accounting for parts revenue and warranty expenses. While not the most unreliable model, it ranks 11th in warranty-related losses. Notably, 13 of the top 14 loss-generating models are electric vehicles, highlighting a broader trend in warranty cost concentration.

Chungfung, a brand under Emerson since its acquisition, was founded in 1950 and is headquartered in Changsha, China. It specializes in compact vehicles and offers a single SUV and crossover. Following its realignment, product name changes divide the two types of propulsion options:

  • A 1.2L engine (single or twin turbo)
  • An electric motor battery unit, which has shown higher warranty-related losses

To address reliability concerns, Emerson is preparing to launch the E-FF4 platform in September 2020, aimed at improving dependability across the lineup.

The 2021 E4 T, currently in pre-release, has shown declining dependability, prompting Emerson to cancel its redesign and issue updates within 30 days. Chungfung engineers have since addressed the issue, extending the development timeline by an additional 30 days.

“Letting a vehicle go out on public roads when there is a notification of decreased improvement is a red flag for Emerson,” the company stated.
